The most wonderful thing about this 1880-1910 antique home with its three original barns is the 2.607 wooded acres it sits on. Not only is it located at 3884 Historic Old King's Highway/Route 6A with 204.46 feet frontage, but also, it gently slopes upward to a private, undeveloped area perfect for a designer home. Here there is enough land to build a substantial house as Brewster requires a certain land to living space ratio.

The existing wood shingle house has been partially renovated to provide comfort while developing the back acreage.
The renovations to the house include an enlarged first floor kitchen and bathroom.
The walls and ceilings have been painted pure white to accentuate the incredible, original finish, hardwoods - Yellow Pine, Oak and Maple. The first floor bedroom walls and ceiling also has been painted pure white. The woodwork and floor remains original. Note: Only the kitchen and bathroom floors have been refinished.

The four and five panel doors are solid hard wood and they are just amazing. Certainly a time gone by.
This process to the rest of the house is still going forward and the great weather should speed up the process.
The first floor living room, dining/computer room and hallway to the basement still need to be cleaned and painted.

The three, wood shingle barns provide storage for endless numbers of things. The asphalt shingle roofs have been replaced and are secure and tight.

The dimensions of the house are approximately 39' x 24'.
There are two floors, small patio, large second floor deck, large enclosed outdoor shower and outdoor stairs to deck.
The basement is made from stones and cement. (The house was built first on a stone foundation and the cellar was dug later and is cement.)
The first floor has a kitchen, bathroom, dining/computer room, living room, bedroom and hallway to the cellar. The second floor has two bedrooms, bathroom (sink, toilet and bathtub) and a long hallway. The door to the deck is at the end of the hallway.

Other facts:
Map 29 Lot 5
Oil furnace. Hot water. Wonderful, original radiators throughout. Once they are hot, they keep the house warm for hours.
The very original, antique coal furnace still remains in place. It is attached to the main system and set up to use if you ever want to burn coal!
Full basement with shelf like walls. Bulkhead entrance. First floor entrance.
All original hardwood floors - Oak and Maple.
Large electrical box with circuit brakers in basement. Lots of empty spaces to add more service.
Two chimneys. One is being used for the furnace. The kitchen chimney is partially exposed and is not being used for anything. A small wood stove could be attached to it with the Town's guidance. I have not checked into the requirements but it is on my To Do list.
The two over one windows have storms on them. The kitchen windows are new insulated ones.
The bathroom window is an actual, antique, solid bronze porthole! A special storm and screen have been made for it.
Wood shingles. The replaced shingles have been stained soft grey.
The asphalt shingle roof has been replaced and is tight and secure.
Town water. Private septic system.
The enclosed front porch, off the kitchen, measures about 16 1/2' in length.
Gas range. Refrigerator. Washer. Dryer.

Price as of 2/22/12 is $585,000.

Spring 2008.
As you can see there is still exterior work that needs to be completed.

Just for fun, I thought I would post some photos of the ungoing renovation process which started in 2007.

The deck and outdoor shower has been completed.
Now Jim and the crew are working on adding on to the kitchen and bathroom. Also, new windows and shingles for the west side of the kitchen.
The job keeps spreading! Will post more pix soon.

Here they come again!

Still mountains of detail work to do but here's a photo update.
The photos were taken at night with flash so they are a bit odd.
